The Quantum Solar Heat Pump is the product of over 30 years of on-going development originating from University of Melbourne research in the 1970s. Where most heat pumps add a booster element as a crutch for cold weather, the Quantum operates reliably down to -10°C without one — less complexity, less energy, more reliability.
Most heat pumps include an electric resistance element that consumes significant energy in cold weather. The Quantum doesn’t need one. It operates reliably from -10°C to +35°C using heat pump technology alone — removing a major source of energy waste and a common failure point.
Quantum’s patented Tank Wrap™ design routes super-heated refrigerant vapour through copper coils wrapped around the outside of the water tank — heating the water evenly and efficiently from the outside in. One of the fastest hot water recovery rates in the heat pump market.
With a COP of 4.53 at 20°C — rising to 5.75 at 35°C — the Quantum 270L delivers over four times more heat energy than the electricity it consumes. Cut hot water running costs by up to 70% compared to conventional electric storage systems.

Air is drawn into the heat pump and passes over an evaporator containing R290 refrigerant, which boils at a very low temperature. The boiling refrigerant is compressed, raising its temperature to a super-heated vapour. That vapour is then fed through copper coils wrapped around the outside of the water tank — heating the water evenly from the outside in — before cool air is expelled by the fan.
Quantum’s technology has been tried and tested across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and Europe for over three decades. Designed and manufactured to Australian Standards. Many original units are still operating after 15 years — a real-world measure of reliability that specification sheets can’t convey.
